Who hates Viz?

well...the news is everywhere...Viz has lisenced Naruto, One Piece, Shaman King, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Sandland, and is realeasing them 1 CHAPTER A MONTH in a new manga compilation magazine called "US Shounen Jump." This outrages me for 3 reasons: (1) it's Viz, the crappiest of the crappy translators, (2) it's being released 4 times as slow as it originally was released in Japan, and (3) they're charging $4.something per issue. This is ludicrious. While I may be fortunate enough to read the Japanese and can buy the tankouban for $5.95 and get 11 chapters once every 3 months or so, those who can't read the Japanese or aren't as close to a manga-selling location have to pay this much....

hmm...$4.75 for 1 chapter each of 7 different manga series (yes, they're sticking Dragonball Z in there as well), as opposed to 390 yen a week for 1 chapter each of over 20 different manga.

yes, I know that I'm leaving lots of stuff out, but it's still unfair for people who can only read these titles like this. Yes, they want to support the mangaka...I would, too....but I wouldn't support this kind of torture.


oh yes, and Rave has been lisenced by Tokyo Pop...but they do good manga, so I'm not that pissed...and MS had only relaese 5 chapters. no biggie.

I doubt they will get HnG....Go isn't that popular here. it'd take a lot of effort to sell it. I mean, how many people said "who wants to read something about go?" when they first saw it? (that is, if they're not a Go enthusiast)

And did viz announce that they are doing one chapter monthly? I heard something about it being 200 something pages... and that would mean lots of adds and misc articles. I think they'll end up doing a couple of chaps for series like DB, naruto, OP, and mankin while they leave stuff like sandland to the single monthly release schedule (since it's only like 12 or something chapters to begin with). Of course, I could be totally wrong.

On a seperate note. How long do you guys think Raijin will last? For some reason I think they jumped into the deep end without learning how to swim first...

and the horror is..either it is a success because people want to know what is going on in later chapters (then VIZ will license even more stuff :shocked:
or it is not..and it is discontinued (then the stuff will be licensed but not released) .. probably even worse...

no it does not..there are some things licensed here as well, but those are licenses for german versions..

now i can't get english versions anymore..since the translation projects are dropped everywhere..and waiting for a release here? ... hmm I should look what manga is licensed here...maybe i start buying it..friends told me it's better then one would expect

hmm...after looking through issue 0, I will admit that they do a decent job. ther are some discrepancies expected of Viz (which is why I dont like them)...and also, after re-reading the press release, there will be more than just one chapter of each per issue. that still doesn't make up for the release schedule, though....

I think I'll convince a friend to subscribe so we I can nit-pick over everything once I see it all...*grumble* ...at least I have my originals...but now I no longer know what books to skip for the time being so I can get all the good shit
