I came back with something like 12gig's of pics. I have one more day that needs to be cleaned but once I get that, I plan on posting mine as well.

I wanna go back. Can I win the lottery now so I can buy a place and live there. I think I would pick living in Kyoto with weekend trips to Tokyo. Seems like a really awesome place where tradition still reigns alongside the modern japanese world.

I'm not going there because my and my GF's finances are separate by her choice, and she's a poor student.

I also feel somewhat cheated that someone else in this forum is using sayans.

Oh it was only dead because I was the only person that was home enough to check the forums.

The forums will NEVER die!

hello all, just a Gen Y kid from the land down under (Australia) =]. Here to gain wisdom on Japanese related topics as well as manga(irc channels are complicated to learn :? ). I'm glad that your forum has not died yet!
Question 1:
@Pion I was wondering did you go to Japan on some sort of scholarship? Because I'm in year 12, been studying Jap for 4 and 3/4 years(I kind of want to help scanlators but not very useful at much+i have no time), and I really want to go to Japan. But i also want to stay with a host family and experience Japanese school life. Kind of like the typical Japanese teenage life , not the touristy stuff:(. I dunno why, i just recon i'd be cooler :p. Probs because I enjoy school (for some reason) and think that Japanese school life would be even more fun :D .
Question 2:
Do you guys know any reliable and safe irc channels that has an archive of a large collection of manga? I've had to trawl through website after website and only found a few, however some have shut down #Lurk, #syndicate. I'm afraid i will lose all my manga, once scanlaters go underground :!: . I know i will have to rely heavily on manga updates to track down scanlators. And i think i may have found a site that lists a few scanlator websites and other interesting stuff, http://insidescanlation.com/spotlight/index.html. Also Just wondering can I get viruses and trojan from downloading on irc?

neways enough rambling and i'm sorry for asking so many questions. I'd be extremely greatful if you or any other knowledgable folks shared some of your advice. And thank you for all of your hard work, snoopycool peeps, I can't name the manga you guys scanlated but I know i've read from some of your works! And best of luck to the future ^^.

Peace Out, ET.

eep gomenasai. I didn't read the rules because i was in a rush. And thanks for taking the time to read my post ^^. haha plus the advice, i thought lurk was gone for good. I've been trying to get onto #lurk with no success, good to know it'll eventually return. So, Gendo, downloading files on irc. after some thought would i be right in assuming it's possible to download a virus? because it's just like using limewire.

You should suspect that ANYTHING that you get from the internet can contain a virus. Every link you click could lead you to malware/spyware or a phishing scheme, this includes IRC.

However; if everyone feared for their computers, there would be no Internet. Anyway, if a virus comes down through the internet, you still have to activate it, which usually occurs when you open the program and the code is actually ran (unless you have all activex controls enabled in which case, going to an 'unsafe' site could cause code to run in the background without your knowledge, ect ect).

In the case of IRC or any downloading you do. You should scan what you have downloaded with a reliable anti-virus program. Usually that is enough to thwart most attacks. If you are getting anime/manga from a good source, then your chances of getting a virus are usually pretty slim.

Lesson Learned: Scan all downloads before opening them PERIOD

Don't worry about, it's not a rule, we've just been under attack from bots and your post looked like one at first glance

you have any spare EMPs lying around? that usually fries most bots. unless they have EMP shielding, then a good bazooka or missile launcher helps.
Take your pick. $200 per ride.

Hah, kk. Your trip sounded like fun, Pion. I'm currently applying for a Japan scholarship , for the end of this year. But i also know, Uni's offer exchange programs, so i guess i'll just use those methods to get to Japan ^^.
lol, Zip-san. I've Learnt some interesting words, and also learnt urban dictionary can be used to translate  !
Cheers Hunter, i'll keep that in mind. I got a polymorphic trojan, from some of my music once :S
and umm again, anyone want to share me their methods for getting their manga fix, pls? irc channels, websites, anything :D.

onemanga mangafox animesomethinorotherforgot ... anyway I buy most of mine. you can get manga for around 5usd plus shipping each. only problem is you have to read it in japanese. look in college for people that have a database at their house and borow an external from them.

StaticFrost, having to go to the individual IRC channels of all your favorite scanlators is the way we had to do it in the old days. It's actually a good opportunity to get to know the people who are bringing the manga to you. So you might want to do that just so you can chat with everyone. It's fun~~ And...you can end up falling in love and moving in with one of them. >_> Trust me. It happens. <_<

Edit: BTW, if I can convince Snoopy to come back just to talk to everyone and hang out on the forums again, do you all promise not to gang up on him for...you know...falling off the face of the planet? ^^;;

Pion, was it AnimeA ^^? And yeah, i think might start buying the latest manga, with my youth allowance :D. Hah, i guess i was just freakin out over nothin, i thought i wouldn't be able to read manga ever again.

Shejes, haha I sort of understand what you mean ;D. Made some friends while askin for help on how to use irc ^^. I just don't have alot of time :(, cause of school+assignments. But i will keep trying to use irc ^^. Haha, and good on you =]

Cheers again.
